Henry J. Steadman, Ph.D.
President
Dr. Steadman is internationally known for his research in the areas of interfacing mental health and criminal justice systems and violence among people with mental disorders.
His work has resulted in:
- 7 books
- 18 book chapters
- nearly 120 journal articles
- and numerous reports
Awards Dr. Steadman has received:
- the Amicus Award from the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law (1987)
- the Philippe Pinel Award from the International Academy of Law and Mental Health (1988)
- the Saleem A. Shah Award from the State Mental Health Forensic Directors (1994)
- and the Issac Ray Award from the American Psychiatric Association (1999)
Dr. Steadman's B.A. and M.A. in sociology are from Boston College, and his Ph.D. in sociology is from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Prior to co-founding PRA in 1987, Dr. Steadman ran a nationally known research bureau for 17 years at the New York State Office of Mental Health.
