Land Acknowledgment

At Policy Research, our work impacts policies, practices, agencies, and people nationwide. We take this responsibility seriously and use our Values and Guiding Principles to remain true to our mission of creating positive social change for people and communities through technical assistance, research, and training.

We honor Indigenous people, their cultures, and their histories. We acknowledge that European colonizers and the American government have committed genocide on American Indian, Alaskan Native, and Native Hawaiian peoples, including the systemic dehumanization of Indigenous peoples and their cultures, the destructive relocation of Indigenous peoples from the land to which they belong, and the inhumane separation of Indigenous children from their families through boarding schools and adoption. Systemic racism has resulted in and continues to produce inequities in housing, wealth, health, and criminal punishment for Indigenous Americans, among many other inequities. Indigenous communities are vibrant and dynamic and have demonstrated undue and necessary resilience in the face of persistent violence and trauma. Alongside these communities, we are committed to moving towards a nation encompassing equity, reconciliation, and healing.

Here at Policy Research, we commemorate the Indigenous communities who have lived where we now work. Our headquarters is located in Troy, New York. This is the ancestral homeland of the Mohican, Haudenosaunee, and Schaghticoke Nations (Source: Native Land Digital). Our impact is not limited to where our headquarters is located. Due to the nature of our work, as well as our remote-first workplace, our impact is nationwide. We also recognize that land stewardship and ownership are nuanced, and many Tribal Nations migrated frequently. One place is likely to have been the home of multiple nations over time, and many no longer live on the lands to which they have ancestral ties. Therefore, we honor Indigenous communities—past and present—throughout the land on which our Nation is now located.

Policy Research is dedicated to transforming ourselves and the systems in which we work. We envision an equitable future with intentionality and action. Join us in supporting Indigenous communities through social and economic efforts.
