Creating Environments for a Good Night’s Sleep Series explores challenges and potential solutions for achieving adequate sleep. Sleep is essential for the human body, allowing for rest, recovery, and memory processing. Behavioral health concerns can often disrupt sleep, making it a focus for wellness. This series aims to equip individuals with the knowledge and tools to improve sleep quality and overall well-being. 

This series is composed of three fact sheets and three webinars. 

Fact Sheets 

  1. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) Fact Sheet: This fact sheet outlines the components of CBT-I. It aims to teach relaxation techniques and establish healthy sleep routines to improve sleep quality. 
  2. Interpersonal and Social Rhythm Therapy (IPSRT) Fact Sheet: This fact sheet discusses IPSRT’s role in establishing healthy rhythms to stabilize mood and improve sleep in individuals with mood disorders. 
  3. Healthy Coping and Sleep Strategies to Promote Restful Sleep for Those Who Experienced Trauma Worksheet: This fact sheet helps individuals to identify and adapt coping mechanisms that negatively impact sleep to foster restful sleep. 

Webinars  

  1. Creating Environments for a Good Night’s Sleep: This webinar explores the importance of sleep, factors that disrupt it, and practical suggestions for improving the sleep environment, such as aromatherapy, white noise, and mattress support. 
  2. The Intersection of Chronic Pain, Serious Mental Illness, and Trauma on Sleep: This presentation examines how chronic pain, trauma, and post-traumatic stress disorder affect sleep. It offers strategies like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) and Interpersonal and Social Rhythm Therapy (IPSRT) to promote restful sleep. 
  3. Putting It All Together: Sleep Habits, Rituals, and Routines for Health and Wellness: This final webinar emphasizes the role of occupational therapy in developing healthy sleep habits and routines. It addresses factors that may interfere with sleep and suggests personalized sleep preparation behaviors.
