The Mentally Healthy Workplace Podcast Series discusses creating mentally healthy workplaces and offers practical guidance for employers and organizational leaders. By addressing the social determinants of health and exploring wellness strategies, this series aims to educate and equip organizations with the knowledge and tools necessary to better support employee mental health and wellness. 

Podcasts 

The series is composed of the following four podcast episodes: 

  1. Social Determinants of Health Part 1: Can the Workplace Stand in the Gap? In this episode, Crystal L. Brandow, PhD, interviews WELCOA President Ryan Picarella on the role organizations can play in supporting health and wellness for employees, using the social determinants of health as a framework. The discussion centers on how workplaces can bridge gaps in health and wellness. 
  2. Social Determinants of Health Part 2: The Unmentionables of Wellness: Dr. Brandow continues the conversation with Mr. Picarella. They delve into nontraditional determinants of health such as adverse childhood experiences and caregiver stress. The episode emphasizes the emerging areas of research and highlights how organizations can address these challenges. 
  3. New Horizons for Mental Health: Resiliency, Burnout, and the Mind-Body Connection: This podcast explores the mind-body connection and the impact of stress on mental health. Dr. Brandow and Mr. Picarella discuss the signs and sources of stress and burnout and offer four preventative wellness strategies that employers can implement. 
  4. Achieving Wellness Goals: In the final episode of the series, Dr. Brandow and Mr. Picarella discuss the basics of wellness, how individuals can define wellness goals, and how organizations can support employees in achieving these goals. The episode highlights the unique position employers have in helping staff overcome barriers to wellness.
